It's the most exciting time of the year... Halloween! Halloween Horror Nights returns to Roblox for its 4th year! Featuring Stranger Things, The Shining, The First Purge and IT! This year will be one to remember, featuring more mazes than ever and terrifying scare zones... it's time to get haunting!
Common Questions
How did we pick what mazes to do this year?
Creating this year's event was fun and challenging. Our first decision was to decide on a general theme. This year we decided to go with "Deadly Reflections": a collection of demented worlds and 'upside downs' that make your mind go numb... perfect to scare you.
This year's headliner, Netflix's hit TV-show Stranger Things, was planned since last year's event. The show fits perfectly as it revolves around the mysterious "Upside Down" which Eleven and friends are terrified of. Just remember to eat your waffles.
The Shining was a popular Haunted House at Halloween Horror Nights Orlando & Hollywood, so we decided to bring it to the virtual world. The Overlook Hotel, while majestic, creates a second Jack Torrance filled with evil and craziness.
Pennywise the Dancing Clown. After the blockbuster film IT amazed crowds, it became obvious for us to bring the world of Stephen King to this year's event.
Last year's overall theme, Silver Screams, made all of our haunted houses themed around films which meant that original ideas could not be used. This year we decided to bring back original mazes in the style of Ghost Town: Curse of Lightning Gulch and La Llorona.
How long does it take to build a maze?
There's no set answer, however, in general, each maze takes about a week to layout, design and construct. The final details are what take up most of the time.
How big is the HHN creative team?
The creative team for HHN is a lot different than from the regular theme park team. While the main core is small, almost every Creative member has some role in HHN.

The Process
Creating an event like HHN sounds easy, but it takes time and effort.
-
Plan: We spend time deciding the themes, houses, zones we want to do every year. The first idea is not always the best idea.
-
Concept: Once ideas are decided upon, testing begins with designing some scenes to make sure the maze will look the way we want it too.
-
Layout: It's easier to draw the layout of the maze and know what you have to do rather than not know where to go after every scene.
-
Build: The fun but labor-intensive part.
-
Detail: Most crucial part of a haunted house, detailing allows the guest to understand where they are and what they are doing there.
-
Script: Scare actors, lighting, effects all have to go into place to finalize the vision.
-
Scream: Best part of creating this maze is watching guests enjoy themselves.
Hidden Easter Eggs
-
The Shining - a hidden "mouse ear" has been left somewhere...
-
Ghost Town - a little nod to Jack the Clown... somewhere...
-
Stranger Things - Classic Universal movies Jaws & E.T. poster.
-
Scare Zones - a few subtle hints...
-
a few more... but we're not telling you... go find them...
Enjoy this year's event!
